Step to IoT



‘Step to IoT’ five days’ webinar series on the Internet of Things organized by IET on campus University of Peradeniya in collaboration with IEEE Sri Lanka-Central region subsection was successfully held on 06th, 13th, 20th  February, 06th, and 13th  March 2020 at 5.30 pm via zoom. This workshop was conducted by two telecommunication experts.

Eng. Anuradha Udunuwara, Senior Solutions Enterprises Architect, Sri Lanka Telecom is an expert in the field of telecommunications & technology with more than 17 years of industry experience. He graduated from the faculty of engineering of University of Peradeniya with a  Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. He’s the world’s 1st MEF Network expert with many other related achievements. He is responsible for consulting, advising, designing & planning technical solutions for enterprise customers. Moreover, Mr. Udunuwara is a guest speaker at many telecommunication conferences and a guest lecturer at the Department of Electrical and electronics at the faculty of engineering of University of Peradeniya.  Eng. Rajiv Weragama, Senior Engineer, Sri Lanka Telecom; he’s an expert in the telecommunication and technology field with more than 12 years of industry experience. He has a bachelor’s degree as well as a Master’s degree in Electrical and electronic engineering and currently pursuing a Ph.D. in IoT at the University of Peradeniya. As a senior engineer at SLT, Mr. Weragama is responsible for service assurance and fulfillment of all SLT services in the central region in Sri Lanka and also a trainer and a speaker at commonwealth Telecommunication organizations and a researcher as well as an undergraduate project facilitator.

Participants have had the privilege to join the workshop with no data charges. We had more than 70 participants in all 5 days via zoom. In the Step To IoT, we discussed

●       What is IoT? Definition, characteristics, IoT basic concepts

●       Difference between IoT and Internet, IoT and M2M 

●       Typical IoT architecture and components

●       IoT reference models

●       The physical design of IoT, devices, and endpoints

●       IoT communication models, protocols, and APIs

●       IoT access technologies

●       SDN for IoT, Cloud  IoT, IoT Security, Privacy Requirements 

●       IoT Security Framework

●       Applications of IoT and Domain-Specific IoTs and

●       IoT in undergraduate projects.

 

At the end of, each day's participants give us very valuable feedback. All of them were very appreciable comments and also they have some suggestions for our future plans for this workshop. The Q&A session also a great opportunity to clear the participant’s doubts about the content covered in the session and they were answered by the speaker. The workshop concluded after giving motivation to the participants on developing the IoT knowledge further. After the end of the webinar series valuable certificate was given to every participant who had continuously join of the Step to IoT five days’ webinar series.
