Field Visit to LTL

As an engineering undergraduate, everyone dreamed of being a successful professional one day. But, mostly in the undergraduate life, more focused on theoretical stuff and it’s rare if got an opportunity to step into an industrial environment. Thus, with the cooperation of IET on Campus UoP, undergraduates from the Faculty of Engineering of UoP pave the chance to visit the LTL Transformers (Pvt) Ltd.

LTL Holdings (Pvt) Limited is a leading engineering company in Sri Lanka, offering products and services. Along with the branches under its wings, it is the largest power sector engineering company in Sri Lanka. More than fifty undergraduates were able to participate in this field visit on the 10th of March, 2020. They got a good overview of how transformers are being built, what are the issues with those, and how they overcome those limits. The process of transformer designing was well explained by one of the engineers from their team. This opportunity gives them a good chance to get a piece of practical knowledge on engineering applications.

This field visit was productive and could experience the Power and distribution transformers, tank and cooling designs, and the manufacturing process of special transformers. Dr. Sudheera Nawarathna has also accompanied us for this beneficial occasion. Students could gain a knowledge on how theories were applied in real world engineering applications and what are the issues and how those can overcome by automation and robustness. In summary the field visit to LTL Holdings Pvt. Ltd was successfully concluded with positive feedbacks
